Good to know

Questions, answered.

Straight answers on materials, re-clads, permits and how Moonrise works in the Fraser Valley climate.

What areas do you serve?+

Moonrise Construction is based in Abbotsford and serves the Fraser Valley and Metro Vancouver, including Mission, Chilliwack, Langley, Surrey, and Maple Ridge. We take on both homeowner projects and subcontracted exterior scope for general contractors and custom-home builders.

Do you work directly with homeowners or only with builders?+

Both. We complete exterior finishing for homeowners on new builds, additions, and re-clads, and we also work as a trusted exterior and finishing subcontractor for general contractors across the Fraser Valley.

Is Hardie better than vinyl or wood siding here?+

For Fraser Valley's wet climate, fiber-cement (James Hardie) resists moisture, rot, and warping better than vinyl and needs less upkeep than wood. Wood and cedar deliver a warmer, high-end look but need more maintenance. We help you choose based on budget, look, and exposure.

Are you insured?+

Yes. Moonrise carries liability insurance and WorkSafeBC coverage. We're happy to provide proof of coverage before work begins, and builders can request our documentation for their own files.

How long does a typical exterior take?+

It depends on the size of the home, the materials and the weather, but a typical custom-home exterior runs a few weeks of on-site work once it starts. We keep a supervised crew on it through to completion rather than starting and disappearing.

Do you handle permits?+

Cosmetic exterior work often does not need a permit, but a re-clad that touches the wall assembly, or a structural change, usually does. We build to the BC Building Code and manufacturer specifications, and can help you understand what your municipality will want for a given scope.

What is the difference between fiber-cement and cedar?+

Fiber-cement (James Hardie) is durable and low-maintenance, ideal for most Fraser Valley walls. Real cedar gives a warmth and depth no manufactured product matches, but needs refinishing every few years. Many homes use both: cedar for accents, fiber-cement for the field walls.

Do you do re-clads, or only new builds?+

Both. We finish exteriors on new builds and additions, and we take on full re-clads of older homes, stripping the failing cladding back, repairing the wall, and rebuilding it with a proper rainscreen so it drains and dries.

How do I start a project with Moonrise?+

Get in contact with a few details about the home and what you have in mind. We will arrange a site visit, talk through materials and detailing, and put together a clear written scope before any work is scheduled.
